Edie Falco is just right as the first female police chief in Los Angeles in the new cop drama Tommy.February 06, 2020
"Tommy" is an old sheep in new sheep's clothing, the latest twist on the cop show with a higher-ranking officer and a glass ceiling buster to separate it from other LA police dramas.February 03, 2020
Is it as network procedurally as network procedurals get? You bet. But, sometimes that's what the audience wants.February 05, 2020
Edie Falco is so talented that she can make this formulaic CBS cop drama watchable. She can't quite make it good, but she saves it from being bad.February 06, 2020
It's no surprise that Falco presides over all of this with aplomb. She's instantly believable, instantly real. You'll root for her take-no-prisoners Tommy, be frustrated for her, question her decisions, and admire her decisiveness.February 05, 2020
First-rate actress, compelling idea but neither can escape the clutches of a shopworn formula.February 06, 2020
After the pilot, I was prepared to be enthusiastic about CBS having landed an above-average version of a very CBS-y show... And after three? It's just another mediocre broadcast show that probably could have been a lot better.January 31, 2020
When you replace the straight, cis, white guy in any narrative, you completely change the narrative. There are plenty of reasons to feel excited about Tommy.January 31, 2020
The straw stirring this flavorful drink is Falco, whose magnetism demands unflinching attention.February 04, 2020
[The] top cop is so empathetic to, at times, defy belief, both in her work and in her personal life... But Falco's stern but hardly humorless performance provides reason to hope that this credibility gap gets bridged.February 05, 2020
Nobody's perfect, but Falco somehow makes even this flaw compelling.February 06, 2020
Falco, of course, is the main reason to tune in, even as "Tommy" struggles to match her range, from serious empathy to dry wit.
